If you’ve ever picked up the tabloids, you’ve likely seen celebrity columns like “Stars—They’re Just Like Us!” It’s always some celebrity performing a mundane task like carrying a bag of dog food or leaving the nail salon. A small kind of reassurance that these superhumans are just regular people—although I definitely can’t swing a racket like Serena Williams, even on my best day. 😆

We recently had an office conversation about certain celebrities with food allergies. When I started digging into it, I realized there are A LOT of them—so maybe in this way they ARE just like us! 

Below we’ve compiled a list of celebrities (in no particular order) with reported food allergies and intolerances for you to peruse—it’s quite a bit longer than we expected!  

Halle Berry: American actress and the first African American woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress for the 2001 film Monster’s Ball. She’s allergic to shellfish.

Josh Turner: American country and gospel singer and actor. Josh is gluten intolerant.  

Clay Matthews: American football linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League. Clay’s allergic to peanuts. 

Emmy Rossum: American actress, television director, and singer-songwriter. She’s best known for her roles in The Phantom of the Opera, Mystic River, The Day After Tomorrow, and playing Fiona Gallagher in the TV series Shameless. Fun fact: our CEO and Emmy went to the same summer sleepaway camp as kids! Emmy has celiac disease.

Steve Martin: American actor, comedian, writer, and musician. You probably know him best from Roxanne and Father of the Bride (classics). Steve’s allergic to shellfish.

Brian Matusz: American professional baseball pitcher. He played for the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago Cubs. He’s allergic to peanuts. 

Serena Williams: American professional tennis player and fashion icon. She has been ranked #1 in singles worldwide eight times between 2002 and 2017, and holds 13 grand slam single titles. She’s allergic to peanuts. 

Elisabeth Hasselback: Former American television personality, talk show host, and published author. You may remember her from The View. Elisabeth has celiac disease. 

Steve Omischl: Canadian freestyle skier. Steve’s a three-time Olympian and the first man to ever perform a quadruple twisting triple backflip with two twists on the last flip in competition! He’s allergic to peanuts. 

Zooey Deschanel: American actress, model, and singer-songwriter. Over the holidays, you may have seen her opposite Will Ferrell in the movie Elf. 🎄 She’s allergic to eggs, dairy, and wheat.

Joshua Jackson: Canadian-American actor. He’s best known for playing heartthrob Pacey Witter in the TV series Dawson’s Creek, and for the films The Mighty Ducks, Cruel Intentions, The Skulls, and more recently the Showtime series The Affair. He’s allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. 

Jessica Simpson: American singer, actress, and fashion designer. At age 16 she signed a recording contract, and released her debut album in 1999. She’s allergic to cheese, wheat, and tomatoes. 

Bill Hader: American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. His career began at Saturday Night Live—you may know him best for his character Stefon in the Weekend Update. Bill’s allergic to peanuts. 

Sabrina Carpenter: American singer and actress. She’s best known for her roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Disney’s Girl Meets World, or The Hate U Give. Sabrina’s allergic to apples and peaches.

Drew Brees: American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. He’s also played for the San Diego Chargers. Drew is allergic to tree nuts.

Rachel Weisz: British-American actress. You might know her from The Constant Gardener, The Bourne Legacy, or more recently, The Favourite. She’s also married to a Bond (Daniel Craig). Rachel is allergic to wheat.

Busy Phillips: American actress and writer. She’s another Dawson’s Creek star, and was also in the TV series Freaks and Geeks and ER. She’s allergic to soy and has sensitivities to wheat/gluten. 

Tom Poti: Former American professional ice hockey player with the National Hockey League. He’s allergic to peanuts and tree nuts.

Jo Frost: English television personality, nanny, and author. She is best known for the reality TV show Supernanny UK. She is allergic to shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts. 

Ariana Grande: American singer, songwriter, and actress. Ariana has three American Music Awards, four Grammy Award nominations, and three platinum albums. She was a Time 100 most influential people in the world, and in 2019 became the most-followed woman on Instagram with close to 150 million followers. She’s allergic to shellfish and bananas.

Adrian Peterson: American football running back for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League, and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. Adrian’s allergic to shellfish. 

Kelly Clarkson: American singer, songwriter, and television personality. She won the first season of American Idol in 2002. Kelly is a coach on the TV show The Voice, and has her own talk show on NBC. She is allergic to peanuts. 

Justin Morneau: Canadian professional baseball first baseman. He played in Major League Baseball for the Minnesota Twins, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Colorado Rockies, and the Chicago White Sox. He’s gluten intolerant. 

Bill Clinton: The 42nd President of the United States from 1993-2001. Bill is allergic to chocolate and flour. 

Chelsea Clinton: American author and global health advocate, and the child of former US President Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Chelsea has a gluten intolerance.

Miley Cyrus: American singer, songwriter, and actress. You might remember her as Hannah Montana, and unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably heard one of her songs (Party in the USA!) Miley has an intolerance to gluten and lactose. 

Clay Aiken: American singer, TV personality, actor, and politician. He gained fame when he came in second place on the second season of American Idol in 2003. Clay is allergic to several foods, including coffee, chocolate, shellfish, tree nuts, and mushrooms. 

Kelis: American singer, songwriter, and chef. She’s sold six million records worldwide, and has been nominated for a Grammy. Kelis is allergic to peanuts. 

Drew Barrymore: American actress, producer, author, and entrepreneur. She achieved early fame when she starred as a child actress in E.T., and you’ve probably seen her in at least one movie with Adam Sandler. She’s allergic to coffee and garlic. 

Ray Romano: American stand-up comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He is best known for his Emmy-winning role on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. He is allergic to peanuts.

Billy Bob Thornton: American actor, writer, director, and musician. You might know him from Monster’s Ball, Armageddon, Primary Colors, or Fargo. He’s allergic to dairy, eggs, and wheat. 

Whew! That’s quite the list! There are also several celebrities that have openly talked about their children’s peanut allergies, including Barack and Michelle Obama, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, Tia Mowry, and Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick.
